What matters when choosing

Jaw profile must match the fitting system

Every kit here comes with M-profile 15, 22 and 28 mm jaws. Retailers list M-profile jaws for systems such as Geberit Mapress, VSH XPress, Sanha and Pegler Yorkshire Xpress. Always use the profile and tool approval the fitting manufacturer specifies. For gas, use only fittings the manufacturer approves for gas, and follow their instructions.

Compact (19 kN) or full size (32 kN)

Compact tools (Rothenberger Compact III, Milwaukee M12, Novopress ACO103) press up to 35 mm metal and are lighter in tight spaces. Full-size tools (ROMAX 4000, Milwaukee M18, RIDGID RP 351) go up to 108–110 mm but weigh 2.9–3.6 kg. Most domestic work is 15–28 mm.

Service intervals

Published intervals differ: 40,000 pressings or 2 years (ROMAX 4000, Novopress ACO103), 40,000 cycles (Milwaukee M18), 37,000 presses (Milwaukee M12), and no scheduled service (RIDGID RP 351). Ask what a service costs before you buy.

Battery platform

If you already own Milwaukee M12 or M18 batteries, a bare tool or a Milwaukee-battery tool (Novopress ACO103) can be cheaper overall. Check which batteries and charger the kit price includes.

How we compare: from published specs and prices, not lab tests. We have not tested or used these products. Specs come from the manufacturer's or retailer's product page, and the source is named where it matters. Prices were checked on the named retailer's page on 20 Oct 2026. They change often, so check before you buy. "See retailer" means we could not confirm a price we could date. Spotted something wrong? Tell us.

FAQs

Which press tool is cheapest in the UK?

Of the 5 products with a price we could verify, the lowest was the Rothenberger ROMAX Compact III set (M15-22-28, 1 × 2.0Ah) at £1,399.99 inc VAT (£1,166.66 ex VAT) from Toolstation, checked 20 Oct 2026. Cheapest is not always best, so check the points above.

Compact or full-size press tool for domestic plumbing?

Compact 19 kN tools press up to 35 mm metal, which covers most domestic 15–28 mm work, and they are lighter. Choose a 32 kN tool if you regularly press 42 mm and above.

Can I use press fittings on gas?

Only fittings the manufacturer approves for gas, pressed with the profile and tool they specify, and only within your Gas Safe competence. Follow the fitting manufacturer's instructions.

Do press tools need servicing?

Most do. Rothenberger and Novopress list 40,000 presses or 2 years, Milwaukee lists 37,000–40,000 cycles between inspections, and RIDGID states no scheduled service for the RP 351.

Did GasStack test these press tools?

No. We compare published specifications and retailer prices, checked on the date shown.
