Gas Safe registration fees 2026/27

You must be on the Gas Safe Register to do gas work legally, and you renew every year (GOV.UK). These are the fees from 1 April 2026, as published by Registered Gas Engineer, which describes itself as the only official Gas Safe Register magazine.

Published 24 Feb 2026 · checked by GasStack 21 Oct 2026.

Fee (from 1 April 2026)Ex VATInc VAT
Business renewal (online)£139.78£167.74
Business renewal (phone & mail)£171.58£205.90
Engineer fee£44.40£53.28
New registration fee£319.96£383.95
Physical ID card£15.91£19.09
Late renewal charge£137.78£165.34
Replacement physical ID card£15.91£19.09
Updated digital ID card£2.36£2.83
Work notification (phone)£5.84£7.01
Work notification (online)£3.84£4.01

Copied as published. One oddity: the online work notification is listed as £3.84 ex VAT but £4.01 inc VAT. £4.01 at 20% VAT works out at about £3.34 ex VAT, so one of those published figures looks like a typo. Check the amount in your account.

What a renewal costs you

The schedule lists the business renewal and the engineer fee as separate lines. It doesn't say on that page how many engineer fees apply to a one-person business, so check the total in your Gas Safe Register account before you pay. For example, if you're charged the online business renewal plus one engineer fee, that's £167.74 + £53.28 = £221.02 inc VAT. A physical ID card would add £19.09.

Which year's fees apply?

Fees are based on your renewal start date, not the date you renew and pay (Registered Gas Engineer).

We couldn't load the Gas Safe Register fees page

Gas Safe Register's own fees page blocks automated checks, so we couldn't re-read it on 21 Oct 2026. The figures above come from the official magazine's published schedule. If they ever differ, the amount in your Gas Safe Register account is the one that counts.
